Council approves grant to Tidnish community association

The Municipality of Cumberland is providing a grant of $43,500 to the Tidnish Crossroads Community Association to purchase a piece of land in the community.

The 4.5-acre piece of property, which houses the Rodney Estabrooks Memorial Ball Field and Playground, was originally developed as a community park more than 40 years ago and the association leased the land for $1 per year and has used the property through the good graces of multiple property owners.

The current owner is seeking to divest himself of the land and has given the community association and opportunity to purchase it.

The cost of the grant is being withdrawn from county operating reserves.
