Building Inspection Services

In light of the continued developments with the COVID-19 virus, the Municipality of Cumberland will be postponing fire inspections indefinitely and required building inspections will be dealt with on an individual basis.

Our building officials are available to residents via email and phone to process applications. 

 Current permit holders are required to contact the building official at each required inspection stage as indicated on their permit prior to proceeding with construction.

Update to preliminary tax sale deadlines

Earlier this month, the Municipality of Cumberland sent out preliminary tax sale notices on past-due accounts with a due date of March 27, 2020. In light of the current global pandemic and the resulting requirements to practice social distancing for health and safety, the deadline for those preliminary tax sales notices will be pushed to June 27, 2020.

The tax sale scheduled for April 28, 2020 will be postponed. 

Water disconnections scheduled for Springhill customers for the week of March 23-26 will be postponed until the end of next quarter.

A reminder, anyone wishing to make a payment may do so with the following methods:

• Online via Paymentus (https://ipn.paymentus.com/rotp/MCC)
• Online via personal banking websites
• Telephone banking
• Mailing a cheque to the Upper Nappan Service Centre
• Using the Pre-authorized debit form (call for a copy to be mailed to you)
• Dropslot at the main doors of the Upper Nappan Service Centre

Measures in reaction to COVID-19 Pandemic

Effective immediately, to be in line with Federal and Provincial government health directives, all Service Centres and the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre will be closed to the public.

Payment of tax bills, water and sewer bills, building permits will continue using the following methods:
• Online via Paymentus (https://ipn.paymentus.com/rotp/MCC)
• Online via personal banking websites
• Mailing a cheque to the Upper Nappan Service Centre only
• Using the Pre-authorized debit form
• Dropslot at the Upper Nappan Service Centre only

Interest charges on the above bills will be deferred for the months of March, April and May, 2020 as per resolution of Council. Residents can expect billing cycles to continue. Water service disconnections currently scheduled will be postponed.

Building permits and permits for subdivisions will be accepted via email (), or through mail to the Upper Nappan Service Centre only.

There will be no in-person meetings with municipal staff. Please email or call to make arrangements with finance staff, municipal planners, building inspection officials or others.

Recreation programming March 16, 2020

Please be advised, all municipally-led recreation programs in Springhill and Parrsboro will be cancelled Monday, March 16th.

The Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre will be open regular hours at this time. Any further changes will be communicated as soon as known.
