Review of November 29, 2021 Special Public Council Meeting

Council of the Municipality of Cumberland met via zoom for a Special Council Meeting on Monday, November 29, 2021. The meeting opened with a territorial acknowledgement.

Council agreed to contributing to funding a portion of a feasibility study for a proposed community centre in partnership with the Town of Amherst. The study will explore potential services a community centre could offer and potential locations that would benefit both municipalities.

A grant for $18,515 was awarded to the River Hebert, Joggins and Area Development Association. This grant will cover the cost of a new roof on the former curling club which has been renovated to be a community recreation centre and library.

The terms of reference for the inter-municipal poverty reduction advisory committee were approved by council. All recommendations from the advisory committee will come back to municipal councils for final decisions.

Council approved a spend of up to $17,500 for a storage shed for in the community of Parrsboro for seasonal items.

The tender for a fire services review, RFP-MCC-2108, was award to Goudreault Associates at a proposed cost of $54,000 plus HST, with a further $20,00 plus HST available if additional work is required. Goudreault Associates proposed an additional scope related to GIS (mapping) analysis of location of fire halls relative to potential response times.

The next public council meeting will be December 22, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. A committee of the whole meeting will be held December 15, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. Formal minutes of the November 29 meeting will be available within 24 hours of the meeting.
