Staffing/Service Levels Impacts

Municipal Council has been continuously monitoring the impacts of COVID-19 in- regards to temporary impacts to our service levels. Due to the uncertainty regarding the duration of our current global situation, the Municipality will be making temporary adjustments to its staffing requirements.

Very early on, decisions were made regarding essential services and the levels of service, regrettably, there is a defined shortage of work for some positions. Also, due to the uncertainty on when operations will resume as normal, the decision to cancel our summer programs has also been made.

Employees impacted generally hold positions which are at facilities that are now temporarily closed, are seasonal, or hold positions that are not required at this time, such as Crossing Guards and Transfer Station Attendants.

“Council has been briefed on the need to adjust staffing levels and has accepted it as a necessary decision, as difficult as it may be," said Warden Gillis. “We support the recommendations of the CAO and Senior Management regarding the need for this temporary adjustment.”

“This was a difficult decision, but the right one for our Municipality at this time,” says CAO, Rennie Bugley. “I hope that every one of our impacted employees will be back to work in a very short time.”

The Municipality will re-evaluate our staffing and service levels on a continual basis and will make further adjustments as our requirements change.
