Tourism boosts local economies, highlights unique attractions, and celebrates the region's rich culture. Late last week, the Government of Canada announced a total of $362,500 to organizations for four tourism projects to help tap into tourism opportunities through strategic planning and hosting dynamic events in the Cumberland-Colchester region.

Gudie Hutchings, minister of Rural Economic Development made the presentation in Truro last week highlighting non-repayable investments through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) to the Nova Scotia Stampede, 2023 World Junior A Challenge, a tourism stategic plan investment to the Town of Truro in partnership with the Municipality of the County of Colchester, Millbrook First Nation and the Town of Stewiacke, along with a tourism growth plan investment to the Town of Amherst and the Municipality of the County of Cumberland.

The Town of Amherst, in partnership with the Municipality of Cumberland, received a non-repayable investment of $15,250 through ACOA’s Tourism Growth Plan (TGP) to develop and implement a strategic tourism plan in Cumberland County under the Explore Cumberland brand. The plan will help both the town and the county build on its tourism potential, improve its tourism products, and engage with the broader network of tourism stakeholders in the area. We are also conducting a Digital Footprint Analysis, to help tourism businesses improve their virtual profile and better present themselves to potential visitors online. Both Municipalities provided $7,625 each towards this project.

ExploreCumberland.ca, a partnered tourism website between the Town of Amherst and the Municipality of Cumberland, invites visitors to Cumberland to discover three distinct regions - the Cliffs of Fundy, the Wentworth Valley and the Northumberland Shores.
