Cumberland REMO is advising residents Cumberland County could see between 20 and 40 cm of snow by 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024.
Temperatures are expected to remain blow freezing, which translate into lighter snow and less impact on power infrastructure and trees. However, if the temperature goes above freezing there’s potential for freezing drizzle and as the snow becomes wetter, it becomes heavier, which could impact power. Winds will be relatively moderate with gusts of 50 to 70 km/h on Saturday and into Sunday. This may cause whiteout conditions in exposed areas.
Residents are advised to monitor weather forecasts over the weekend for further information.
Residents are urged to be prepared for an emergency with a 72-hour emergency kit including a list of important contacts and numbers, canned and dry food, pet care, manual can opener, first aid supplies and a list of prescription medications, six litres of water per person per day, wind-up or battery-powered flashlight and radio as well as a charge bank for your cell phone.
As this storm will be drawn out over three days, it is recommended that unless necessary, residents should limit any travel plans for the weekend.
It’s also suggested that due to the amount of snow that could accumulate, heating exhaust vents should be checked regularly on your home to ensure it does not get blocked and increase the risk of carbon monoxide exposure.
