Earlier today (Tuesday, May 21, 2024), during the initial site preparation work for the new fire station in Springhill, contractors working for the municipality encountered concrete structures related to the former mine workings in the area.
These structures were further south than expected.
The area was immediately filled and the footprint of the facility will be moved away from the structures encountered.
