Members of the Cumberland RCMP came together with other service providers to recognize the numerous services offered in the community nearly every day during Police Week celebrations at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre in Springhill on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Students from several Cumberland County schools attended the event that celebrated the theme Committed to Serve Together.
Along with the RCMP and its emergency response team, other service providers were in attendance including Natural Resources and Renewables, Canadian Border Services Agency, Correctional Services of Canada, Springhill Fire Department, Nova Scotia Sheriff Services, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Springhill Ground Search and Rescue, Autumn House and others.
Const. Travise Dow of RCMP Northwest Traffic Services said all law enforcement agencies and service providers are all about working within their communities to make them better and he was very happy with the engagement shown by students from elementary, junior and senior high schools in the county.

“As we increase awareness of events like this more people come out. In fact, I believe this year’s is probably the biggest one we’ve had yet,” Dow said.
Municipality of Cumberland Mayor Murray Scott said it’s important to recognize the work of police and the entire emergency response community.
“They do tremendous work in our communities throughout the year. To see them all come together to share some of the work they do is so important and to me to see all the young people from schools across Cumberland County is so reassuring,” Mayor Scott said.
