The award recognizes a business, organization or individual that demonstrates an outstanding commitment to supporting the community, providing valuable services and making a positive difference in the lives of Cumberland County residents.

It celebrates those who go beyond their regular responsibilities to strengthen their communities through volunteerism, community involvement, partnerships, charitable initiatives or services that improve people's quality of life.

Dave Hirtle said he, Kirsten and the company’s employees are proud of their community work.

“When we started County Line Postech, our goal was never just to build a successful business. We wanted to build something that would allow us to give back to the communities that support us;” he said. “We've always believed that success isn't measured only by what a business earns, but by what it gives back. Whether it's supporting local charities, youth sports, community events, or helping those in need, we're grateful to be in a position to make a difference.”

Hirtle said the award means a lot, but the greatest reward is knowing they’ve been able to make a positive difference in our community.

“We hope to encourage other businesses to get involved, give back, and help make our communities even stronger.”

Minor hockey, baseball and basketball are among the benefactors of the Hirtles’ support as well as the Amherst Curling Club, Amherst Golf Club and the Amherst Bowling League. They helped organize the Amherst Home Show and have assisted Rotary, Ducks Unlimited, Habitat for Humanity, the Bridge Workshop, the Shrine Club, the Cumberland County Exhibition and many more.

Mayor Gilroy said that across Cumberland County, there are many organizations that go above and beyond every day. He said Small Business Week is an excellent opportunity to provide the recognition they deserve.

“They give their time, share their talents and work hard to make life a little better for those around them,” he said. “Often, they do this work quietly, without looking for recognition or expecting anything in return. They simply see a need and do what they can to make a difference.”
