There's another great reason to lace up your hiking boots and explore the natural beauty of the Municipality of Cumberland.

Hike Nova Scotia has introduced a Municipality of Cumberland Hiker Challenge Badge, encouraging residents and visitors to get outdoors, discover local trails and experience some of the spectacular scenery the region has to offer.

The challenge is part of Hike Nova Scotia's provincewide Hiker Challenge program, which encourages people of all ages and hiking abilities to explore the outdoors while earning commemorative badges for completing designated hiking activities.

Municipality of Cumberland Mayor Rod Gilroy welcomes the initiative, saying it provides another opportunity to showcase the region's natural beauty while promoting healthy, active lifestyles.

"We're pretty fortunate here in Cumberland County to have some of the most beautiful scenery you'll find anywhere in Nova Scotia, and there's no better way to experience it than getting out and exploring our trails," said Mayor Gilroy. "Whether you're an experienced hiker or someone just looking to get outside for a little fresh air and exercise, this challenge is a great way to discover what makes our municipality such a special place."

The Cumberland Hiker Challenge was officially celebrated with a guided hike at Partridge Island in Parrsboro on Oct. 17, organized by Hike Nova Scotia in partnership with the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark.

The badge program offers participants an opportunity to challenge themselves, enjoy the outdoors and earn recognition for their efforts.

Mayor Gilroy said initiatives like the Hiker Challenge also help support local tourism and encourage people to explore communities throughout Cumberland.

"Every trail has something different to offer, whether it's a breathtaking view of the Bay of Fundy, a peaceful walk through the woods or a chance to discover a part of Cumberland you've never visited before," he said. "And when people come here to hike, they're also discovering our communities, our businesses and the friendly people who make Cumberland such a wonderful place to visit and call home."Hike

The Municipality encourages residents and visitors to take part in the challenge, enjoy the outdoors responsibly and discover the many hiking opportunities available throughout the region.

“As both the Municipality’s Active Living Coordinator and an avid hiker, I wanted this badge to be a meaningful reflection of what makes the Municipality of Cumberland so special,” Carolyn Bollwerk said. “Great care went into highlighting some of our most beautiful trails and capturing the natural beauty, unique landscapes, and sense of adventure that make exploring our region so rewarding. My hope is that this challenge inspires more people to get outside, discover somewhere new, and experience the beauty of the Municipality of Cumberland one trail at a time.”
