Fatal snowmobile crash at Poison Lake under investigation

Late Saturday morning, the Municipality was advised of a snowmobile accident that occurred late in the evening of Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, in the Poison Lake area of rural Cumberland County. Sadly, the victim succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The Collingwood Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene along with other first responders.

Cumberland RCMP hosting human trafficking presentation in Springhill on March 10

The Cumberland RCMP is hosting a presentation on human trafficking on March 10, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre in Springhill.
All residents of Cumberland County are invited.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with a town hall-style session beginning at 7:45 p.m.
Cpl. David Lane will be the presenter.
He has been a member of the RCMP for more than 22 years – including more than 17 years working in specialized sections such as human trafficking, drugs, organized crime and guns and gang units. He has been asked to share his unique human trafficking expertise on an international level by well-known organizations such as Lawyers without Borders in Guatemala and the International Association of Human Trafficking Investigators (IAHTI).
Lane has been qualified as an expert witness over 83 times in seven provinces on a wide range of criminal related topics including human trafficking. He was the architect and creator of the current Human Trafficking Unit and Strategy in Nova Scotia.

Chilli Willi Festival and Fundy Shore Winter Carnival return to Cumberland County

Cumberland County is ready to celebrate this weekend with a pair of winter carnivals in Springhill and along the Fundy Shore from Debert in Colchester County to Joggins in Cumberland County.
Come out of hibernation and participate in four days of fun and laughter at the 2025 Chilli Willi Winter Festival from Thursday, Feb. 13, to Sunday, Feb. 16.
This year there’ll be all sorts of ways to chase away the winter blues the always popular chilli cook-off, a winter campfire teen social, chair fitness at the community centre, a Valentine’s social at the senior’s centre, a sledding party at the Springhill Pit Pond outdoor Snowrobics and Snoga sessions in the Lions Park and much more.

“We are always grateful for community involvement, from participants to organizers and supporters of events and look forward to growing participation each year!
