Cumberland County issues RFP for policing services

The Municipality of Cumberland is issuing a request for proposals for the provision of policing services within the municipality. Council passed the motion unanimously during a special meeting on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
“This is another step in a process we began a year ago,” Municipality of Cumberland Mayor Murray Scott said following Tuesday’s meeting. “We formed a review committee last May that included four councillors and myself as well as four citizens, our CAO and a representative of the Department of Justice. We held a series of public meetings last fall and considered what was said and how our residents feel about policing within the municipality.”

“We are looking to develop a guide to the Cumberland region, one that enables newcomers and life-long residents alike to easily find information about our wonderful part of Nova Scotia in one concise package,” Allison Watson said. “We want people to tell us via a survey what they love about the towns of Amherst and Oxford and the Municipality of Cumberland, where the towns and county’s hidden gems are or the special place where they take people to when they come for a visit.“

A special meeting of the Cumberland municipal council will be held on Tuesday, April 11 at 11:30 a.m.
This meeting will be conducted via Zoom. The only item on the agenda is to consider the approval and issuance of an RFP for Municipal Policing Services.
